I get often asked about the name 3TREESceramics…

It was during my stay in Hirado Kyushu//Japan late 2004. I was there for a residency, teaching photography to locals and preparing an exhibition. It was also asked of me to give workshops to the locals, kids, housewives and amateurs….all analogue…In exchange i could choose to do some workshops in Japanese crafts, i choose ceramics, yes there the seed was planted but also i did some workshops in knife welding and calligraphy. My calligraphy teacher asked us to make a visualisation of our name. In my case ‘Bos’ which means forrest. Now in Japanese the translates to ‘mori’ ~3TREES. One tree being a tree, 2 trees being a bush and 3 trees being a forrest. I got left with a very pleasant stamp carved out of soapstone with my own logo….I thank mr. Hashimoto for this day for this beauty..!

Then when I came home and I finally started my own studio and named my studio 3TREESceramics my mother was overwhelmed with joy, her name being Trees, a dutch translation of Theresa…
